{"id":330,"date":"2004-10-30T12:30:38","date_gmt":"2004-10-30T12:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maydanoz.arved.priv.at\/blog\/?p=330"},"modified":"2004-10-30T12:30:38","modified_gmt":"2004-10-30T12:30:38","slug":"keynote_jkh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arved.priv.at\/weblog\/2004\/10\/30\/keynote_jkh\/","title":{"rendered":"keynote jkh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are my short, badly formatted notes on jkh&#8217;s keynote.<br \/>\nJKH<br \/>\n&#8211; showed a few stats, that BSD is the most common used UNIX (even more than Linux). 12.5 Million MacOS X users (Gartner Group?), 2.5 Million FreeBSD users (netcraft).<br \/>\n&#8211; introduced the BSD parts of MacOS X and IOKit.<br \/>\n&#8212; Tiger <strike>will have UFS2<\/strike> Userland based on FreeBSD 5.1<br \/>\n&#8211; outlined parts where Mac OS X is ahead of the BSDs, and where BSDs<br \/>\nneeds work to stay state of the art<br \/>\n&#8212; Authentification ACLs, nsswitch, OpenLDAP and Co.<br \/>\n&#8212; Sound, FreeBSD users play mp3 and &#8230;mp3<br \/>\n&#8212; *BSDs don&#8217;t support embedded machines without MMU (e.g no NetBSD on the IPOD)<br \/>\n&#8212; Standards UNIX 03, Common Criteria etc.<br \/>\n&#8212; Rendevouz<br \/>\n&#8211; Apple using OpenGL helps people avoiding DirectX<br \/>\n&#8211; promises that Apple will try to cooperate better with the OSS and more actively push back changes..<br \/>\n&#8211; He will continue to advocate UNIX and OSS inside of Apple. In the earliy 10.0 days <strike>he had to persuade<\/strike> people inside Apple needed to be persuaded to ship Terminal.app, today it is getting more popular.<br \/>\n&#8211;> promised to put slides later onto the Conference Webpage<br \/>\nBTW there are nearly more Macs than FreeBSD Laptops attending.<br \/>\nBTW2.
