Spent two weeks on vacation in Turkey.
Finished two books, first El laberinto de los espίritus” by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, read in German (“Das Labyrinth der Lichter”). A present from my last birthday.
Second “Tour de France” by Irene Kuhn. My first book read in French (at least partially). The bilingual text worked fairly unlike when I tried bilingual Turkish-German books, where reading the original was way too tiresome.
But still there is lots of work to do to get my French back to the level I was 20 years ago.
Apart from swimming in the see I ran about 37km in two weeks. Now my right knee is still a bit stressed. Hope it is nothing serious.
Registered a private AWS accout to keep up with my cloud foo. Hope I will manage to stay in the Free Tier.
Registered for next terms course at the university, though I still haven’t got the result from last term.
In preparation for the move in October I decommissioned mchammer.arved.priv.at after 13 years of service. Most likely also sauna.arved.priv.at will be decommissioned in the next weeks.
So noticed today, that the cert expired. Some upgrade broke letsencrypt. Will have to fix later.
Tried to run rocketchat on FreeBSD. Horrified by the custom buildsystem that not only once to install its private version of clang as well as downloading bazillion of dependencies, (some of them even multiple times).
Looking at getting a NAS based on the HP Proliant Gen8 and FreeNAS. Just need to find a budget 🙂
Submitted finally my semester assignment, will publish it after I got a grade. Now two months of work and fun until the term starts again.
Made a plan to start another blog in Turkish to improve my writing skills. Delayed for now 🙂
So I have switched jobs, back to the old one. Not much has changed, even the broken lamb in our office hasn’t been replaced in one year. I have been missing the green view from the office and the more dynamic approach to software development. Now I am missing reasonable timelines, the food and my dockingstation/Dual Screen setup
At home I am still working though with less intensity on my university assignments (have to finish this month).
Since yesterday I spend the time I don’t have on Tatoeba translating sentences.
Unfortunately on Tuesday the new term starts, so then I will have even less time to waste on the internet.
Alexander Motin describes in this useful post how to save power on FreeBSD laptops.
It makes me want a FreeBSD laptop again….
Since i am not living in de/uk/US last.fm wants to force me to subscribe again.
Probably i will spend some minutes on trying to get the last.fm proxy working on my server.
But because most of the users with similar or interesting taste don’t live in the three markets and the music catalogue will probably also focus on the three big markets. I guess last.fm will be boring in the future.
Looking for alternatives now…
About a month ago my root Server died because of hardware faults. Unfortunately it took my hoster some time to fix it, so when the new server was ready, i was on holidays.
But now i finally managed to complete the restore of the backup, and while doing it updating to FreeBSD 7.1, which has been released in the meantime.
So i think now everything should be working again. Now i just have to filter and read all the piled up email….
Location: Burger King at Atatürk Airport Istanbul
Just got my first link to a tweet. So it looks like i am going to use this twitter thing more regulary. Unimportant stuff now goes to the twitter. My Twitterfeed
Today the UPC technicians setup my internet connection. It requires two technicians to plug in the modem and make a phonecall to the UPC HQ. I wonder why there is no selfinstall option. At least this time they did not want to touch one of my PCs.
Afterwards i resetup a the soekris firewall. It was a bit tricky, because there was a display problem on the serial console, so it was a partial blind flight. And i forgot a couple of things, so it took longer than expected.
Things not to forget next time:
- /boot/loader.conf: console=comconsole
- /etc/ttys: enable ttyd0
- /etc/rc.conf: Add network configuration for sis0 and enable ssh
