Just noticed that some change in the perl port broke the p5-XML-RSS module so
RSS Feeds are not updated. I removed them temporarily to stop getting failure email messages. Stay tuned…

Winter!

Normally I don’t write about topics that are already mentioned in my favorite blogs, but today is an exception.
Yesterday evening when I went home I noticed that the rain feels quite snowy and today when I first looked out of the window everything is white and beautiful. Well at least when I look into the garden, the streets are brown and slushy.
I love the winter when i am wearing the appropriate clothing and the heating works.

New G4 iBooks

Apple announced new iBooks with a G4 Processor. Luckily I didn’t order a G3 iBook last week like i intended, since the new ones are in the same price category and hopefully faster. The new iBooks will be shipped with the new hyped Panther Mac OS X.
I also noticed that finally the ASUS AMD64 Mainboards are available in Vienna, so I could also buy a new Workstation. But actual I don’t have the time to setup 2 machines and to make the first steps with MacOS so i will have to wait some weeks….

Lerchenfelder Strasse

Last week the Subway station “Lerchenfelder Strasse” was closed. This improves the speed of the U2 so I will have to recalculate which is the fastest way to university.
The station was closed because it was only a few 100 meters to the next station “Volkstheater” and the stations are currently expanded for larger subways.
Also the rotation dock (Not sure if this is the right english word for “Wendeanlage”) at the U2 subway station Karlsplatz is operational again. This should also improve the speed of the U2.

Blog Summary

University started, and I haven’t added a single entry into my blog since last weekend. I will try to write several entries as a retrospect.
First a short summary what happened in my favorite blogs.
Rob asked, if blogs are just a annotated link list. Hm, My blog contains only a few links, which aren’t bookmarks for myself, but to illustrate my entries.
So perhaps I should change this, since I never managed to keep a bookmark list, because I use too many computers(Work, Home, Laptop) and too many browsers (Opera, Konqueror and Firebird) => 9 Bookmarklists.
lauri wrote several entries and started to use categories. I am not sure If I will ever follow that direction, since I have no idea how to categorize my entries. BTW jule has a nice category called “Word of the day”..

Being a tourist guide in vienna

Last week i didn’t wrote any new entries, because I spent most of the time being a tourist guide for my sister and her boyfriend who are visiting Vienna at the Moment. At the moment they are visiting Schoenbrunn alone, so I have some time to update my diary, read emails etc.
Yesterday we ascended Kahlenberg, were you have a nice view over Vienna. Unfortunately the weather was a bit hazy. The evening we spent at a viennese “Heuriger”.
On Saturday we attended the “Lange Nacht der Museen” were you could visit as many Museums as you like until 1.00 am. The Highlight was the MAK – Museum for Applied Arts with an Exhibition of Helmuth Gsoellpointner (strange austrian name). Really impressive Styropor and steel objects.

My CD of the month

Yesterday I visited the local Virgin and bought some new CDs. My recommendation
is Quixotic from Martina Topley-Bird.
Martina was the female voice on Tricky’s “Maxinquaye” album. Quixotic is more mainstream but nearly as good as Maxinquaye. My favorite songs are “Anything” and “Too Tough To Die”.

Power outage

Here is the promised summary of the last days at Nove Hrady.
On Sunday morning there were two interesting talks about the KDE Build system by coolo (unsermake) and David Faure. After lunch i listened to a talk about KCachegrind. Looks really colorful and mighty. Unfortunately it relies on valgrind, so it will not be available on FreeBSD. After that there was a talk about KDE’s internal organization by Andreas Brandt which resulted in an interesting discussion with various people. The day finished with a talk by Matthias Kalle Dalheimer about the History of KDE.
On Monday I only attended the Keysigning and had to travel home after that. I took the train with Chris Lee and Andreas Brandt to Linz.
Unfortunately i lost my Notebooks Powersupply somewhere in N7y. I hope someone finds it, but I already tried to get a replacement, since I am leaving for holidays next week. Medion has them still available at a more or less reasonable price, but they refuse to send them to Austria :-(.
