Yesterday my ADSL modem was delivered, and it worked out of the box. Now i have to wait for the painters who decided to delay their work to Decemter 27 instead of tomorrow. Then i can finally start migrating my services to the new IP range.
Since yesterday it was announced that Telekom Austria is buying Etel it was a good idea to switch my ISP to inode.at. Unfortunately the new telefon line, which should start working on January 2 will be operated by Etel, so it looks like I will become a Telekom Austria customer for the first time in my life.

FM Radio in Vienna
While Googling for DVB-T (which recently started in Vienna) i found also this list of FM stations which broadcast around Vienna. Of course most are only available with special antennas.
When i was a teenager i sometimes liked to listen to obscure radio stations. My highlights at that time were “BFBS” (only on good weather conditions i could receive their Bremen FM signal) and Atlantic 252 a Music station on LW.
But when i moved to Austria there was FM4, so not much need for different stations. When Blumenau or Hermes are violating my ears i usually either switch to Orange 94.0 or NRJ.
Now i wonder what other stations are worth listening too. I know Fun Radio on 94.3 has sometimes good music (Yeah i should really learn a bit slovakian…) but i have no idea about the Czech or Hungarian stations that i should be able to receive without too much trouble. Any recommendations?
WLAN keys in the Apple keychain
Recently i had to change my WLAN key. Since then my Apple laptop refused to automatically joined the network, although the key was saved in the keychain.
Today i found the cause. If a network with the same SSID but a different key is already saved in the System keychain, Apple stores the key in the users keychain without prompting to replace the existing key in the system chain. And it looks like the system keychain has higher priority so it always tried to join with the old key. Argh.
Naming Konsole tabs
I would like to give my konsole tabs meaningful names like in screen, where you can display the name of the current command.
So far the best i came up with was something like this:
$ cat bin/sshk #!/bin/sh dcop $KONSOLE_DCOP_SESSION renameSession $* ssh $*
But there is probably a better solution somewhere out there.
Fighting irssi
uni-erlangen.de switched their ircserver and the new does not have an AAAA only hostname, so i had to fight with my irssi, to persuade it to use ipv6.
Unfortunately the config file syntax is mostly undocumented. I had to figure out how to add servers via the commandline to find out that the magic is
family = "inet6"
Second it would be nice to have some kind of priority order, “First try the servers with autoconnect set, then the others” instead of the current topdown algorithm.
Fun with the Fritz!box
Today i got the new c’t which contained a short article about linux on the Fritzbox and a link to thiswiki.
First i updated the firmware, because the latest version supports acting as a Wireless Repeater, so i can finally receive VoIP Calls while the FritzBox is disconnected from the LAN (at night).
Later i had to play with the nice features “Bier holen” (dial #96*6*) and of course telnetd ( #96*7* to enable #96*8* to disable)

FreeBSD 6.2
Today i updated my server to 6.2-PRERELEASE, and it went well, even the em(4) card still works.
On my firewall, which i updated last week i am seeing several
kernel: cannot forward src fe80:0005::0201:6cff:fea1:bb22, dst fe80:0005::0240:63ff:fed3:ea27, nxt 58, rcvif gif0, outif lo0
But it seems to be harmless, as IPv6 works.
I suspect the reason are the temporary changes regarding net.inet6.ip6.auto_linklocal and since i set net.inet6.ip6.auto_linklocal back to 1 they seem to have disappeared.
I will update my last server (this one, the remote server) on Wednesday.
Currently i am planning to move next month, so unfortunately i will not have time for EuroBSDCon this year :-(. So maybe i will put 23C3 onto my timetable instead.
Citybike Wien
Since the weather was nice when i left home for work today, i decided that instead of taking the U6, i would use a Citybike for the first time. They have been around for some time, but I was always too lazy or too much in a hurry to register.
I managed to persuade the Terminal at Alserstrasse, that i need a bike, the bike was usable, and I drove to Schottenring to enter U4. So if it does not rain, i should do this more often, because it does not cost extra time compared to the subway, which goes quite an indirection.
On the Website i can log in and check from where to where i drove in what time (15minutes today). Now it would be nice, if there would be a Terminal near “Wien Mitte”, where i could catch the S7. Until now my only choices are Stubentor (continue via U3 to Wien Mitte) or Schwedenplatz (continue via U4).
For my way back home a terminal near Handelskai would be nice, but I guess that won’t happen in the near future.
uz uz uz…
While reading this “Jugend braucht Bass” rant about kids listening to Music^WNoise via the hands-free speaking system of their mobile phones, i remembered the recent advertizing campaign for a Nokia(?) phone HiFi extension, where a conductor was conducting a mobile phone playing classical music on the crowded Mariahilfer Strasse.
Wrong target group! No one interested in HiFi will listen to music on his mobile phone, but i have a nightmare of teenage kids using a mobile subwoofer extension for their mobile phones.
Ideally the next generation Ghettoblaster is connected via WLAN or a next generation Bluetooth similar to Apple Airtunes.
…Now we just need a cool name, a wearable design and an irresponsible consumer electronics company (Hello Sony :-).
New MT – 3.33
There is a new version of MT out. If you can read this i will commit the port update.
Oh oops..and my HTTPS Cert expired two weeks ago….
